The Arid and Aroids with a 20-hectare nursery in Quezon province, owned by business partners Horticulturist Boyet Ganigan and Dr. Fernando Silvestre Jr. are not only helping the community right now by providing affordable, accessible, and local and imported plants, but they are also innovators in their own right.

Many people became Plantitos and Plantitas, people who collect and plant ornamentals, which began last year during the height of the global health crisis to alleviate the anxiety caused by the pandemic. As a result of the growing demand for plants, the arrival and release of various branches of Arid and Aroids became very popular.

Grace Bondad Nicolas (first female President of the American Association of the Philippines, Business & Lifestyle writer of various broadsheets nationwide, Entrepreneur, Host, Blogger, and Plantita) interviewed Boyet Ganigan, one of the co-founders of Arid and Aroids, at Silang, Cavite, the main showroom with endangered and one-of-a-kind plants worldwide.

“We have 400 registered resellers, and all are very passionate about what they do to serve the customers. We’re here to give accessibility, and that’s why we’re checking different sites to put our collection to showcase and sell the Plantitos and Plantitas. Soon we will be in Cebu. We will soon have a one-of-a-kind marketplace where the customers can use a cart and pick their favorite plants. We will also provide other materials for planting. We just launched our showroom in Alabang and recently finished one in Baguio.”

The landscaped showroom showcasing the various varieties of local and imported plants is incredible. Administrator Vrent Garcia is walking around the guests, explaining the plants’ origin, price, and stories, ranging from local to rare, and cost between Php 50 and Php 2 million per pot.

The soon-to-be Coffee shop in the area is also under construction, catering to guests who want to discuss their favorite plants while also enjoying the scenery as if you’re inside the jungle, with so many varieties to inspire all plant lovers.

“I am in awe at Arid and Aroids because of the different varieties they are showing to the public. These are precious plants. Not only that, for me as a collector, I’m amazed by the selections. Also, it’s better to visit their branches, choose your fave and bring it home satisfied. Also, very affordable and has lots to choose from. I love the landscaped showroom, and you’re gonna have an idea of what to do also in your area. Artistic and innovative. Definitely, all who will visit will have something after with happiness.”

According to Boyet, what distinguishes these premium plants is that they are not only tended and locally propagated under them but they are also being offered to the public for the first time. There are new forms, shapes, and types of plant varieties that only the nursery locally propagates, such as a rare philodendron esmeraldense found in the branches but is now most endangered in Silang, Cavite.
